TIT FOR TAT

May 11th 2014 vs West Ham Women’s B

Mother’s Day Tit for Tat

It was a beautiful sunny day at the wondrous Unicol Stadia where some Mothers gathered to watch their daughters on Mother’s Day take on a strong team from the West.

The first 20 minutes of the game from our keen-as-mustard Midfielders and Strikers, who were doing a very good job of annoying the Westie defence with sustained attacks, did not come to much fruition. But these prolonged attacks still weren't satisfying our Attackers’ hunger for those goals.

Konagh, being a Goalie’s worst nightmare struck a sweet 25m shot that hit the inside of the right post and deflected back into the Keeper’s arms. Soon after that, our token Scottish Defender Rebecca ran a full 30m with the ball and turned the Westie defenders inside out with a Highland fling managing to hit a wonder strike into the top left corner of the goal for her first of the season. Braveheart himself would've been stoked.

Further on it was the tough as guts Tash’s turn to taunt the Goalie. Safari, with the stealth of a Dark Horse smashed a wicked corner ball into the middle of the box and with a mad dash the Defenders from the West cleared it and Tash then took her chance with a terrific shot, which was saved by the Goalie.

Ten minutes later West Ham broke away from our attacking deluge with another long kick clearance from deep within their own half and found the right amount of space on the right wing for their galloping forward who snuck past our defenders and scored a solid goal into the bottom corner.

This reignited a fire within the Unicol Attackers and after receiving a ball from a bundle of ricochets off the Westies defenders, striker Erin with her sparkling golden boot scored a magnificent goal from out of thin air.

The second half was very much like the first half as continued Unicol pressure made it a tough day of work for the opposition Defenders from the West. Twenty minutes towards the end of the second half the Westies hoofed another long ball into our half, which found the Westies fast Striker who cut into the box and slipped it into the back of the net, making the tit for tat score 2-2.

But Unicol wasn’t ready to give up that easily. Megan had a terrific shot on goal after receiving a solid pass from the amazing Ash, ran into the box and blasted a shot headed for the top corner only for the Westies Keeper to make a blinder of a save.

The Ref however was having a strange day to say the least and our supporters on the sideline weren't shy in pointing this out. At times during the second half it looked more like a game of volleyball. He not only missed two stone wall penalties, but he also decided to give a yellow card to one of the loveliest ladies you could ever meet for tripping herself up and falling onto a Westie Player.

All in all a 2-2 draw was a fair result as West Ham came into this game with a good plan and held their shape really well under a barrage of pressure from the Unicol team.
